ROOF TEAR-OFF AND REPLACEMENT - Project Description:
The roof tear-off and replacement on this classic home in Allenhurst, NJ required a range of actions. The old roof needed to be removed down to the roof rafters. As the challenge photo shows the initial roof was cedar shake shingles, installed on roofing lath. As part of the project preparation all the contents in the attic where covered with waterproof tarps. Likewise, windows and doors where protected so that the removed materials would not damage the home or the plantings.
Installed Elements
- New 1/2" CDX Plywood sheathing was used to enclose the roof
- The sheathing was bordered with GAF WeatherWatch® - Ice & Water Shield as is required by building code around the eaves and rake edges, and in the valleys of the roof
- GAF 30 year Timberline Midnight Green shingles now cover the roof
- GAF hip and ridge vents, in matching Midnight Green, will provide the proper ventilation and therefore guarantee the longevity of this new roof
- The original chimney at the roof line was deteriorated due to age. The chimney was repaired (repointed) by a mason as part of this complete project.
